Put an End to Your Discomfort and Embarrassment
Uncomfortable and embarrassed by excessive underarm sweating? Injectable skincare treatments can help significantly relieve your condition. On an average, patients report an 80% decrease in sweat production under their arms which typically lasts for approximately 7 months.
Hyperhidrosis is a common disorder that can cause excessive sweating in many areas of the body, including your underarms, forehead, palms and soles of your feet. Axillary hyperhidrosis (severe sweating of the underarms) is the easiest to treat with an FDA-approved injectable skin treatment.
How does this Treatment Work for Hyperhidrosis?
Botox® is injected with tiny needles just under the skin of your underarms and works the same way as it does with wrinkles. It blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands, thereby preventing sweat from being produced in the treatment area. (Think of it like turning your sweat glands off for a while!) Since it remains just under your skin, the effect can last for 7 months or even longer. It is best, however, to have the treatment twice a year as effects start to diminish after around 6 months.
The process is relatively pain-free and takes only a few minutes to complete. This injectable treatment is also said to be most effective under the arms as compared to other areas affected by hyperhidrosis. You may shave your underarms before the injection is administered.
In 2004, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved Botox®* for the treatment of severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis in patients unable to obtain relief using anti-perspirants. Since then, many have taken advantage of this treatment to effectively alleviate their problem.
The reduction in sweating begins to take effect in the first few days, but it may take up to one week for the treatment to reach its full effectiveness. Side effects, if any, are temporary and similar to dermal filler treatments administered for wrinkles and age lines.
What is the Cost of Botox® Treatments for Underarm Sweating?
Typically 50 to 100 units of Botox® are required per underarm but it varies for each individual. The cost of Botox® is covered by many drug plans. All you need is a prescription for it. You may have to pay an injection fee to the doctor for performing the procedure.
